DIAMONDS ARE A GIRLS BESTFRIEND
Rachel and I had a pretty rad time away this weekend - to celebrate our 6 year anniversary we decided to roll the dice with the weather and head up to Bright for the Blue dirt shuttles. The guys at Blue dirt are running shuttles all winter long at bright - $60 p/day and $110 a weekend. We pretty much got the rawest weather you could - poor visibility, icy temperatures and cold gusts on Saturday.
The riding was pretty wild, and if you've ridden Bright you know those trails aren't a walk in the park in nice conditions. Sunday was still chilly, but with the rain absent it Made for some awesome conditions.
Make sure you check the forecast and get some winter riding in at Bright - especially if you chance a clear and crisp alpine bluebird (i.e.. clear sky with lots of sun) you'll do some of the best riding of your life. If not, just be prepared with winter jacket and gloves etc. and you'll be golden!
Given that the weather was going to be less than conducive to enjoyable camping, we opted to book a night somewhere. We stayed at the Bella Rouge cottage in Bright http://bellarougecottage.com.au. It was a seriously magical little spot! We paid around $210 on Air BNB incl. service fee's. The host Diana was super accomodating and the kitchen was stocked with coffee, fresh milk, butter and eggs, bright brewery beer's etc.
This ended up being a pretty special weekend for us both - on Saturday night I [finally] popped the question to Rachel and lucky for my sake she has agreed to put up with me indefinitely!
Bright's always been a really special place to us. There's something about it - as you drive into town between the tree's that line the Alpine road it's almost as though all your worries are left behind. I am stoked beyond words that we were able to create such an important milestone in such a magical place!
I didn't get a chance to take many photos considering the rain, but here are those that I did - all shot on fujifilm XT1 with the samyang 12mm F2.8 (manual focus).
