MOUNT BULLER VDHS
Mount Buller played host to round 3 of the Victorian Downhill series this weekend past and what a time it was! There's always something magic about bombing runs through the alpine and hopping back on the chair lift at the bottom. International was the trail of choice and what started as a pretty rough and rocky race track soon developed into an absolute war zone by Sundays race runs.
I was racing (Short travel mens) so I didn't have many opportunities to shoot; however I did just take delivery of my new Fujifilm XT2 body during the week so I snuck away for an hour or so during practice, and then I managed to get a few shots of the final riders at the start gate. I didn't have time to hunt around for neat compositions or anything as I had to make it back for my race run, so forgive me for all the run-of-the-mill basic front on shots!
I ended up last after a pretty nasty crash (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7oweRfS7Bo&t=25s) and Rachel walked away with 3rd in Pro Ladies on her trail bike! Huge! Word on the street is that she blitzed the top section however came unstuck with an off-track adventure further down. Awesome to see her training paying off prior to the upcoming enduro race season.
The mens pro final was a real Treat with Dean Lucas piloting the new Scott DH bike for it's first racer ever I'm thinking? Dean pulled second after battling a nasty flu all weekend, close behind Jackson Frew who may or may not have some big news dropping shortly - keep an eye on this guy this year!
As always, great to catch up with everyone. We're off to New Zealand this Saturday for the final rounds of the EWS continental series - I'll make sure to get plenty of shots for your viewing pleasure.
A big thanks to Mount Buller Bike Park, the VDHS and Shannon and the guys at All Terrain Cycles for pulling together an epic weekend; particularly on getting the chair going!
